+ Five Most Bizarre Personal Injury Cases

There are some accidents that nobody would ever expect to happen. These occurrences are so unordinary that they seem more like fiction than fact. Nevertheless, when bad things happen, regardless of how strange, the victims deserve a qualified personal injury lawyer. Here is a list of the five exceptionally bizarre, yet true, personal injury cases.

Caffeine Overdose

Americans drink caffeinated beverages in record numbers. The ready availability of caffeine makes it seem innocuous. Yet, many forget that caffeine is a drug. In 2013, a family filed an $85 million wrongful death suit against an energy drink manufacturer. The suit claimed that a man suffered a heart attack after drinking cans of the beverage on a regular basis. The coffee and extra stimulants might have caused the man to collapse and die 45 minutes into a basketball game.

Water Overdose

In 2007, a woman, participating in a local radio contest, died of a water overdose. The radio station ran a contest for an expensive video game console, a prize that would go to the person who could drink the most water.

In her attempt to win, the woman drank two gallons of water in approximately three hours. A few hours later, someone found her dead in the bathroom. Her husband filed and won a $16.5 million compensatory damage claim against the radio station.

Hot Coffee

In an infamous personal injury case, a woman suffered second-degree burns from a cup of coffee purchased at a fast food drive-thru window. She and her lawyer claimed that the restaurant failed to cool the coffee before handing it to customers. A jury awarded the woman $200,000 in compensatory damages, finding the restaurant negligent. To further punish the company, the jury also awarded $2.7 million in punitive damages.

Killer Whale

A Florida family filed a wrongful death suit after their 27-year-old relative broke into a theme park to swim with a whale. According to the surviving family, the man just wanted to be with the whale that the theme park presents as cuddly and lovable in advertisements. They sought millions of dollars in damages, but the courts awarded them nothing.

Hot Pickles

McDonald’s settled a lawsuit over a hot pickle. A woman claimed that her burger contained a pickle that gave her second-degree burns and scarred her face. According to reports, the pickle landed on her chin because that was the location of the burns.
